Mental Conditioning is now commonly used by almost every elite and professional sports organization in the world. (NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, etc. (to name a few) and even our own United States Olympic Team has incorporated this training.
One of the most important tools is concentration. The pressure is high in competitive games and events, particularly at the highest levels such as that at the Olympics, national meets and tournaments, etc. It’s easy to get distracted by all the pressure, demands, and action. Athletes must also know how to set appropriate goals for themselves, use imagery, control their self-talk, relax or energize themselves on command and, of course, be self-confident.
Another factor sport psychology helps athletes control is motivation. A common misconception among sports fans and the casual athlete is that athletes who don’t win simply did not want it badly enough. In many instances, though, motivation problems stem from over-motivation. The athletes want to win the championship or earn the gold medal so badly that “their fire is burning too hot.” The solution is to find the optimal level of energy and stimulation.
The Peak Performance System is ideally suited and particularly useful in the coaching and development process as applied to athletics and sports performance. This program is based on the latest and best practices in mental conditioning techniques. This program is designed for those individuals who seek excellence and maximization of potential in the world of athletics and sports performance.
As a client of Performance Vertical Consulting, you will be thoroughly evaluated through a comprehensive interview with one of our consultants. In addition, we will administer the Peak Performance Behavioral Inventory, a state of the art personality and behavioral questionnaire that will help assess the strengths as well as developmental needs relative to your current performance and your potential.
Many sports such as golf, tennis and skating, not only require physical skills, but a strong mental game as well. Most coaches preach the line that sports are 90% mental and only 10% physical. Especially in sports where hundredths of a second or tenths of an inch separate the champions from the mediocre athletes, an extra edge can be extremely crucial. Numerous athletes are turning towards mental imagery to take their game to the next level.
The very WORST workplace or performance stressor – it is what YOU tell YOURSELF. Self-talk, the conversations we have with ourselves in our head, is what turns a workplace event or any other situation into a persistent anxiety or stress. We have hundreds of these internal conversations per day, and guess what – most of them are negative and unproductive.
It is important to be aware of anxiety and stress levels throughout practice and competition. Learning how to effectively manage anxiety and stress is important for helping athletes stay focused and in control. Energy management techniques help athletes to calm down or get pumped up, giving them the necessary tools to control both their physical and mental energy levels.
